My first ever class at VCU… and of course it has to start over zoom. It wasn’t all bad though because we ended up making the first NUQ/VCUQ Collaborative films
But that was only the beginning, we ending up making our own models based on an existing film, but changing a fundamental aspect of design. For example it would be Ace Ventura but a dark gritty film noir type or in our case Spider-Man but in Japan. For this project we made a model, some 3D printed characters we didn’t use, a title sequence, and scene ripped straight out of Captain America: Civil War, but using our model. Needless to say may of our members lost our minds to the pressure. During our presentation we couldn’t keep a straight face whenever we saw Tony Stark.
Finally, we ended with our Final Projects. A film to write, develop, make a model for, and pitch for jury. Of the 12 submitted idea, 3 of the ideas were accepted. Mine was one of them. Due to the time constraints and overall exhaustion, I have only two pieces of evidence to show that it even happened.
The story was something really close to heart and I started even using design elements as story elements to enrich the viewing experience. Unfortunately, our film did not get picked, but I hope one day it becomes a reality.
